ENVIRONMENT

Environment
"Our environmental vision is holistic," says Shona Quinn, Sustainability Leader. "We believe in paying attention to what happens in the field, the dye house and our customers' washing machines. Our goal is to design out negative impacts—and design in positive change." Eileen Fisher. (2018).

MATERIALS

By committing to use organic fibers, recycled fibers and sustainable fibers such as hemp and Tencel, they support clean air, clean water and a healthy environment for workers and wildlife.

CHEMISTRY

certified dye processes, most notably the bluesign standard. They also support green cleaning by working to eliminate conventional dry cleaning in favor of hand and machine washing in cold water.

CARBON

Since 2007 they have been tracking their miles and modes (plane, train, ship, truck) of transportation. They're committed to offsetting an increasing amount of their shipping and store emissions by partnering with NativeEnergy.

WATER

They are deeply aware of the global water crisis and are currently developing a water strategy. Their first step has been to support organic farming, which has a lower gray water footprint than conventional farming. They are also working to increase water efficiencies in their manufacturing process. When their silk dyehouse became bluesign certified, it reduced water usage by 20%.Eileen Fisher. (2018).

G -STAR Raw (2018)

G-Star focuses on the innovation and design of denim. When they are designed, they are designed for the future; not only the appearance of their products, but also the impact of their products. If they still hope to become a denim brand after 20, 50 or even 100 years, then innovative design and thinking about their impact on humans and the Earth is crucial.

For G-Star, this means that in the future, denim will be created by investing in sustainable innovation and incorporating it into what they do. He did some design consulting and other odd jobs there. Then he found a very strange job. He found an assistant manager position in the newly opened North Face store, and then went in to apply. Rice is a designer who cares about outdoor activities, and he knows that if he can design his favorite products, he will find his love of design. When he applied for the job, he actually wanted to design outdoor products for the company one day. He does not care about the retail industry. In fact, he worked in the retail industry for two and a half years. "We cannot make any promises," he said. Fast company. (2014).

Until he took a break, in a North Face costume design, a position was opened, so he applied for it and got it. Jacket or wool had never been designed in his past designs, but at least it was a design job, and Rice found that almost all designers knew how to design high-performance apparel. Under the knowledge of passionate colleagues, this work became He loves the work. “It has many things in common with industrial design. Outdoor fashion design has become my passion,” he said. What is cannabis as a material?

Cannabis is an alternative to natural fibers and has little effect on the environment. It is one of the most durable natural fibers on the planet. As people become increasingly aware of the dangers of traditional cotton growing and synthetic fertilizers, they began to use organic cotton exclusively in all cotton products.

How does the brand process the material?

Some of the recycled nylon they use comes from post-industrial waste fibers. Yarns collected from spinning mills and waste from textile mills can be processed into reusable nylon fibers. They use wool to make their product line made from post-consumer recycled plastic soda bottles.

What do they make from the material?

They are the first outdoor apparel makers to do this. One way they can reduce the impact of wool production is to recycle used wool. Made from a durable mixture of cotton residues left on the plant floor and the original organic cotton, the recycled cotton is neither bleached nor stained.

Why is is sustainable?

Patagonia denim uses only 100% organic cotton without genetically modified seeds, synthetic fertilizers, insecticides or herbicides. And has been working hard to develop a new wool supply chain. (Patagonia. 2018).

For Spring 2018, the UBB design team drew from across the decades – ranging from early 1900s printmakers to 1930s national parks posters. Use natural fibers, natural comfort, natural beauty. Organic cotton and organic bamboo are the hallmarks of blue canoes - the heart of everything they do. In short, they are good for the sustainable development of the world.

Their cotton and bamboo are grown without harmful pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Then use only the mildest, non-toxic dyes. Because plants, animals and people need to be protected. So even in the warmest weather, it has natural soft, smooth and breathable fabrics.

Bamboo is the ultimate sustainable crop. It’s very fast growing, and renewable. It requires no pesticides, fertilizers or irrigation. It causes no soil erosion and reduces runoff. Bamboo can yield 20 times more fiber than trees and regenerates without plowing or replanting. It can be grown on soil that is damaged by overgrazing. Bamboo produces 30% more oxygen than trees thereby reducing carbon dioxide that causes global warming. Blue canoe. (2018).

Blue canoe. (2018) report that Like rayons from other sources, bamboo has to be chemically processed to break down the fiber. Tencel is a rayon from managed tree farms. Although chemically processed, the chemicals are recycled and re-used, limiting chemicals in the waste stream.

SUMMARY

SUSTAINABLE FASHION

All of brands refer to the effects of the production of clothing on the environment. This includes the use of pesticides in growing cotton, other natural, sustainable fabrics, the dyes used for various colours, water and waste treatment, energy reduction, using recycled materials, and sometimes even packaging. For example, the brand Ednu combines modern design concepts with this fast-growing industry to establish long-term sustainable development opportunities by supporting manufacturers and working with African artists and artisans. Most of their materials come from factories that minimize the environmental impact of organic, recyclable materials while saving water and using solar energy. The list of opportunities to be a more sustainable fashion brand goes on and on. Sustainable fashion is fashion that focuses on improving matters in terms of environmental impacts and/or ethical/social impacts. For example ,Stella McCartney, to create environmental-related activities on World Water Day, to let more people understand sustainable fashion.

SLOW FASHION

the part of slow fashion refers to the style, design and quality of the garment, as well as the intention behind how it was made. For example, Synergy which is willing to produce organic wool scarves. Additionally, all of their accessories are made of organic materials. Their Hand-forged sterling silver hoop earrings, recycled glass beads and vintage rope necklaces.  Slow fashion involves buying clothing made of durable fabrics and staying away from fluctuating trends so you can still wear the pieces you love years down the road. It is concerned with quality textiles designed and often made by the clothing designer sometimes synthetic, sometimes natural but made or purchased in small amounts beforehand making limited editions of the designers’ ideas. The Blue Canoe brand uses organic cotton and bamboo to make women's clothing. From underwear to dresses to shirts, these can be worn for many years. They use natural fibers and are naturally comfortable. Their cotton and bamboo are grown without harmful pesticides or fertilizers. Then use only the mildest, non-toxic dyes.

Both of slow fashion and sustainability fashion play an important role in the development of fashion industry. The evolution of slow and sustainability fashion is not only good for the world of fashion, but also very helpful society and environment.
